My husband and I enjoy visiting
cemeteries. Maybe we are even a little obsessed with it. As a result when we
vacation, we like to visit local cemeteries, especially historical cemeteries.
This summer I had the opportunity to visit the Mount Olivet Cemetery in
Frederick, MD.
I saw a grave marker that resonated
with me:
Every day is important. Modern
grave markers only list the years of birth and death. My mother’s gravestone only
lists her birth and death dates. She was almost 62 years old. She lived 61
years, 7 months, and 12 days.
For those who have lost children,
every day is important. When time is short those days seem even more precious. Our
children’s lives were very short, but we treasured the time we had.

While at the cemetery I was
reminded of the beauty of remembrance. These stones stand in memory of those who have gone before. Gone, but not forgotten.
Lastly, I am glad my Redeemer
lives!
“I know that my
redeemer
lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.” (Job
19:25)
